We made a trip to Hebron Rock Colony at the front of peak leaf viewing.
We had been there before but from the other side. The side you access from the Boone Fork Trail. But this side, accessed through Foscoe somewhere near Hound Ears down a winding gravel road you park alongside, takes you down a trail straight toward the river that descends down what’s called Hebron Falls from the Boone Fork Trail and Hebron Rock Colony from this side when it begins to rain just a tad and my wife slips twice before deciding to sit rather than risk a cracked face. She called me George of the Jungle because I took off my socks and hopped along the rocks like the amazing athlete that I am.
Here’s A Guide from All Trails
Stephen said this was his favorite place and I had to admit that I’d not been in this part of the High Country, especially on a Sunday afternoon, without being deluged by droves. But within an hour of our arrival we were deluged by rain and I made the very impressive choice of hiking back barefoot to the car. We piled in soaked with no towels the way I imagine you’re supposed to do when you’re awesome like we were. At least we felt like it, hiking in that downpour. The most badass two miles I’ve walked barefoot in a longtime.
