If you’re looking for local things to do, see, eat, read, climb, etc., here are some others in the High Country you’ll want to consult.
GUIDES
Four Seasons Boone
Four Seasons Boone is a local guide to life and living in the High Country, with articles, adventure guides, events calendars, dining recommendations and guides to local attractions. Their site provides information for visitors and residents of Ashe, Avery, Watauga and Wilkes counties. Listen to their inaugural podcast here with Our State Magazine Editor-in-Chief Elizabeth Hudson. These are genuinely good people.
Explore Boone
Explore Boone seems to cover just about every activity and eatery there is to cover, including these options for cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the High Country and this guide to local outdoor activities.
Rock Dimensions
This is another kind of guide. These are good people, too. They’re climbing guides who’ve been in the High Country for decades.
THE BOOKSTOREs
Foggy Pine Books
It’s just kind of nice to be walking past Boone Saloon down off King Street and see what looks like a house and realize it’s a bookstore–with books. It’s a place you can actually walk into where they have books on the shelf that you can hold and buy. If you haven’t ever dreamed about running a bookstore in a small town then you haven’t ever dreamed. This is just about the only bookstore I know of in Boone.
Dancing Moon Earthway
This is another bookstore in Boone, but it’s got a funny name.
